What You Should Know About Home Theater Pictures

It is necessary for one to consider the picture quality before buying a home theater system.The pictures should be sharp and quality should be clear. Today's television choices go beyond the traditional CRT or cathode ray tube most of us are accustomed to. Of course, the CRT type of television is still commonly used these days as it offers plenty of benefits. Also known as a direct view television, the CRT screen offers affordability and good to excellent picture quality. The downside to these televisions is their size limitations. Today's cathode ray tube television screens are available in sizes up to but not exceeding 40 diagonal inches. Another downside to the CRT screen television is weight, as the largest of them are usually quite heavy.

Another type of screen is the front projection style. This style is very similar to your average movie theater. The projector is separate from the television and placed across the room so that the image is centered on the screen, which is usually made of fabric. These screens can be as big as your theater room can handle. Experiment with the distance of the projector from the distance of the screen to determine what works best. It all depends on the size of the screen and the quality of the projector. Speaking of screen size, you want to make sure you are sitting the proper distance away. Your distance from the screen should equal one-third of its size as a general rule.

Then there's the rear projection screen. These screens are available in large sizes and come in a variety of different styles. The projector is built into the back of the television, hence the name rear projection. Examples of styles include Digital Light Processing or DLP, Liquid Crystal Display or LCD, and Liquid Crystal on Silicon, or LCoS. Each of the different styles has its own advantages and disadvantages.

One of the newest and most popular type of home theater pictures or screens is the flat panel. Flat panel TVs are very thin and light. The two main categories of flat panel television screens are plasma and LCD. The LCD screen is popular for various types of televisions and is very much like the average notebook computer screen. Plasma screens utilize a complicated arrangement of cells to create images and represent the latest in modern home television technology.
